School Programs
Charter Schools
The purposes of Charter Schools are to (1) improve student learning; (2) increase the choice of learning opportunities within the public school system; (3) create professional opportunities that will attract new teachers to the public school system; (4) establish a new form of accountability for public schools; and (5) encourage different and innovative learning methods.

Charter schools are subject to fewer state laws than other public schools with the idea of ensuring fiscal and academic accountability without undue regulation of instructional methods or pedagogical innovation. Like school districts, charter schools are monitored and accredited under the statewide testing and accountability system.
DAEP -  Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs
Disciplinary Alternative Education Programs (DAEP) are an alternative placement to the home campus where students who have violated the law and/or the student code of conduct may continue their public education apart from what would be their regular placement.


Students receive instruction in the four core areas of English, math, science, and social studies. A limited number of electives may be available.
GED
The GED program has been developed for those students that do not have a reasonable expectation of graduation. Students in the GED program must be 16 years of age at the beginning of the school year. Two years must have elapsed since the student entered the 9th grade and has less than one third of the required credits to graduate. The State of Texas requires that the student take the exit level TAKS test.

Students are enrolled with student and parent agreement.
GED (General Educational Development) Tests measure the outcome of a high school education. The GED Tests consist of five tests, one in each of these subjects: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Writing Skills, and Interpreting Literature and the Arts. The GED Tests are available in English, Spanish, French, large-print, audiocassette, and Braille. Adaptations to testing conditions are permitted for adults with disabilities
JJAEP - Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs
Juvenile Justice Alternative Education Programs (JJAEP) provide educational services to students who have been found by a juvenile court to have engaged in delinquent behavior.



JJAEP programs provide a highly structured environment for those students who have been expelled from public schools, committed felonies or numerous misdemeanors, or were ordered by a court to attend the program.

Students receive instruction in the four core areas of English language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. GED, and self discipline instruction is also available. A limited number of electives are also available.
School of Choice
The School of Choice Alternative Education programs provide accelerated instructional services to students at risk of dropping out of school.

 

 

  • They are designed to facilitate school attendance and success for students with unique circumstances.
     
  • Classes are available in the four core subject areas of English, math, science, social studies and a limited number of electives.
     
  • Many offer a flexible school day schedule often with late afternoon or evening classes.
     
  • Many school of choice programs feature an individualized, self paced program and/or include an open entry/open exit program.
     
  • Some Schools of choice offer child care and/or pregnancy related services.
