TAAE President 2017 - 2019

Hello and Welcome to the TAAE Web Page

As the school year draws to a close I am looking forward to meeting with the Board Members and Members of the Conference Committee. We are putting this session of the Legislature behind us and we need to begin to concentrate on any changes that have potential to affect the 2018-2019 School Year. The following Bills were presented this year, it is certainly not all, but these could impact our schools:

SB22/HB1237 – Relating to Establishment of a Pathway in Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) program and to the repeal of the tech-prep program

SB463/HB1321 – Relating to eliminating the requirement to use present school assessment instruments as a criteria for promotion or graduation and to make certain accountability determinations

SB370/HB2616 – Relating to Discipline and behavior management of a student enrolled in a grade level below grade three at a School District or Open-enrollment Charter School

HB1776 – Relating to replacing the U.S. History EOC with a Civics test

HB3706 – Relating to certain Alternative Education Programs designed to address workforce development needs for At-Risk students.

If anyone is interested in keeping an eye on these bills and any other bills that will concern our Associate Members, please contact any of the Board Members so we can work together for the good of the organization. For example, they did pass the Bill which allows students to graduate after passing 3 of the 5 EOC test with a Placement Committee meeting.

We will work to keep our Web page up to date and viable to you as members. If you have any questions concerning the type of campus we cater to, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail. We have experienced people working in AEP’s, AEC’s, DAEP’s, etc. that potentially have encountered your situation and we can work together to help come up with solutions to our mutual “opportunities for growth”.

We can all see the light at the end of the tunnel, this is an exhausting time as we prepare for the end of school and Graduations. I hope you will all be able to get some much needed rest and rejuvenation over the summer. There are several opportunities for Professional Development at the Service Centers, On-Line, and within your local Districts. Please remember that the best Professional Development for all Members (and potential Members) of TAAE is the Conference in February.

Please mark your calendars for February 6-8, 2019.
